Dr David Phillips is a Research Fellow with the OIES Carbon Management Programme and is also a board advisor to a number of companies in the cleantech sector in the UK. His work interests span the CO₂ value chain, with a focus on the interfaces between carbon management, financial markets and insurance, project funding, and technology deployment.
He was previously VP, Corporate Development at Svante, covering financial planning, shareholder engagement and plans in Europe to accelerate deployment of sorbent-based CO₂ capture technology. Before this, he was Head of Capital Markets at Aker Carbon Capture ASA, working with financial and corporate stakeholders across the CO₂ value chain and contributing to the 2024 joint venture with SLB that formed SLB Capturi.
David spent around two decades in investment research at leading banks in London and New York, focusing on chemicals, global energy/energy services and also as Head of Research for Europe. He holds an MA in Chemistry from the University of Oxford and a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
