Dr Alan Whitehead CBE is Chair of the Independent Review of Greenhouse Gas Removals. The review, announced in March 2025 and reporting inOctober 2025, is considering how options for GGRs can assist the UK in meetingnet zero targets, out to 2050.
Dr Whithead served as Member of Parliament for Southampton Test from 1997 to 2024 as a member of the Labour Party. He served as a Minister in the Department of Transport, Local Government and Regions in the previous Labour Government and Shadow Minister for Energy Security from 2015 to 2024. Dr Whithead is a Fellow of the Energy Institute and Visiting Professor in the Engineering Faculty at Southampton University.
