Dr Alan Whitehead CBE is Chair of the Independent Review ofGreenhouse Gas Removals. The review, announced in March 2025 and reporting inOctober 2025, is considering how options for GGRs can assist the UK in meetingnet zero targets, out to 2050. Dr Whithead served as Member of Parliament forSouthampton Test from 1997 to 2024 as a member of the Labour Party. He servedas a Minister in the Department of Transport, Local Government and Regions inthe previous Labour Government and Shadow Minister for Energy Security from2015 to 2024. Dr Whithead is a Fellow of the Energy Institute and VisitingProfessor in the Engineering Faculty at Southampton University.
