Simon has over 35 years’ experience in the aggregates and construction materials industry. Hejoined Heidelberg Materials UK as CEO at the end of 2018 from his previous role as managing director of Eurovia Infrastructure.
His focus has been on driving down carbon emissions through the company’s involvement in several industry-leading projects. He has been instrumental in the company achieving a final investment decision (FID) for carbon capture and storage at Padeswood cement works, and in trialling hydrogen as a fuel at Ribblesdale cement works establishing a pathway to moving away from fossil fuels.
Simon has also played a key role in creating a recycling business line as part of Heidelberg Materials’ strategy to conserve natural materials and support the circular economy.
Other senior roles include managing director of Midland Quarry Products (Heidelberg Materials ’Leicestershire-based asphalt and quarrying business) and operations director at Tarmac.
Simon is also a past Chairman of the Mineral Products Association (MPA), the trade association for the aggregates, asphalt, cement, concrete, dimension stone, lime, mortar and silica sand industries.
He holds a BSc and MEng in mechanical and electrical engineering and is a chartered director and engineer.
